Why track AI crawlers

Analytics tools do not show bots, so most site owners have no idea whether AI tools read their pages at all. The AI crawler tracker records every visit from known AI and search crawlers: which bot, which page, when, and what your server answered.

A page that AI search crawlers never visit cannot appear in AI answers, so spotting those pages early tells you where to look.

Verified, not just named

Anyone can send a request that says "GPTBot". IndexPedia checks each visit against the IP addresses the bot's owner publishes, such as OpenAI, Perplexity, Google and Bing, so imitations are left out of the numbers.

How it is installed

Add one small snippet to your site, or upload your server log to see the past. The snippet runs on your server, so it sees crawlers that never run JavaScript, and it reports each visit only after your page has been sent.

Key terms

ChatGPT-User
OpenAI's agent that opens a page when a ChatGPT user asks about it.
OAI-SearchBot
OpenAI's crawler for ChatGPT search results.
AI referral

Google Analytics cannot see bots

AI crawler tracker: frequently asked questions

What does the AI crawler tracker record?

It records every visit from known AI and search crawlers to your site: which crawler, which page, when, and what your server answered. It also records visitors that arrive from AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot.

Why can't I see AI crawlers in Google Analytics?

Analytics tools run in the visitor's browser and ignore bots on purpose. AI crawlers do not run that code, so they never appear. The IndexPedia snippet runs on your server, where every request is seen.

How do I install the tracker?

Add one small snippet to the top of your site's main file. It reports each crawler visit to IndexPedia after your page has been sent, so visitors never wait. You can also upload a server log to see visits from before you installed it.

How do you know a visit is from the real crawler?

Each visit is checked against the IP addresses published by the crawler's owner, such as OpenAI, Perplexity, Google, Bing and Apple. Visits that use a famous name but come from other addresses are marked as not verified.
